0 is a Size

You know what bothers me?… when people think they are doing the “right” thing but then turn around and CLEARLY make a statement to put down another person.

Sophia Bush was mad because she saw a couple of shirts at Urban Outfitters that were actually quite disturbing.  It was a shirt that read “Eat Less”, which is very wrong because their clientele base is 13-25 year old teenagers that would be seeing these ads or buying these clothes.  I have nothing against this whatsoever.

In an open letter to Urban Outfitters which was posted on her blog, Bush wrote:

“You should issue a public apology, and make a hefty donation to a women’s organization that supports those stricken with eating disorders. I am sickened that anyone, on any board, in your gigantic company would have voted ‘yes’ on such a thing, let alone enough of you to manufacture an item with such a hurtful message. It’s like handing a suicidal person a loaded gun. You should know better.”

Again I have no problem with this, my biggest concern is that “Size Zero IS A SIZE”.  What about a good portion of the population that is underweight that can’t gain weight?  We all know someone that can eat everything in sight and not work out a day in their life, but for some reason they can not gain weight.  Why would it ever be ok to make fun of someone for being underweight but not for being overweight?

“Hey fatty you should put down the cheeseburger” is the same exact thing as “OMG you should eat a cheeseburger or 3!!”  People need to start realizing that its not only the overweight people that have a hard time with their self image.  Wake up people its 2014.
